DJ Freegah is the “Best African DJ in Germany”

Babajide Mayowa Moibi also known as DJ Freegah ist Germany-based based disc jockey. End of 2018, DJ Freegah was asked by DJ Mista Wallizz of the Berlin-based Freak de l’Afrique Soundsystem if he’d be interested in becoming a DJ, as he had noticed his passion for music and dance. Shortly after, Freegah publicly declared himself a DJ. DJ Freegah’s first public appearance was in March 2019. On the turntables, DJ Freegah loves to give his all, investing his energy to keep the good vibes flowing while connecting to his audience. Apart from mixing music or wowing frenzied crowds, Babajide is an accomplished Software Engineer/Consultant. DJ Freegah is the co-founder and active member of Afrohouse and Amapiano project AfroVibrations

Early life[edit]

Babajide Mayowa Moibi was born in Kaduna, Nigeria. He moved with his family in 1997 to Ibadan, one of Nigeria’s oldest cities, His passion for music started at a young age when his father would repeatedly play old vinyls of Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti, Haruna Ishola. In his teenage years, he would be introduced to HipHop and RnB groups Plantashun Boiz, The Remedies and the likes. Then later to a vast variety of Afrobeats artists across Nigeria and beyond.

Career[edit]

DJ Freegah grew up during what is arguably the most influential periods in Afrobeats history. His passion for Africa-inspired music genres and acquaintances with dynamic DJs across the continent would later inspire him to take up the turntables when he moved to Europe. The Cologne-based DJ has honed his skills playing at a number of special events, weddings, birthdays, music festivals, and major clubs around Germany, including shows alongside prominent DJs and national acts. His personal highlight so far being a gig in front of over 5000 people at the 2019 Carnival of Cultures in Berlin. DJ Freegah has his first international gig in 2020 in Lagos Nigeria. Shortly afterwards, he played at different locations and festivals on his West-African tour in the Cotonou (Republic of Benin), Accra (Ghana). Across Europe, he has played in over 6 countries.
